Hi, blueberry pies! <3 So, today, we're going to be talking about...blueberries (that's right!)! You know...the cute, sweet, round, tasty little fruit we all love! We know they're delicious, but do you know all the good they do for you and your body? Well, let's find out!

1. They're pack full of antioxidants. Antioxidants help in fighting off and reversing the damage that toxins and free radicals have caused, and they also increase the efficiency of your body's defense system for sickness. Countless of the everyday products we use contain seriously harmful chemicals (of which a post will be on later on), so blueberries are a great way of doing your body some good to combat this damage!

2. Blueberries protect our brain. They are considered "neuro-protective," which means that they help defy brain degeneration, neurotoxicity, and oxidative stress (an imbalance between free radical production and the body's ability to neutralize them through antioxidants). It's also been discovered that eating more blueberries reduces cognitive decline and helps boost memory (and boy, could I use them for memory!).

3. Blueberries help fight cancer. In part due to the numerous antioxidants they contain, blueberries help fight and kill cancer cells without destroying the healthy ones of your own, unlike radiation and chemotherapy. The natural way is truly the best way in healing oneself because unless you're allergic, there aren't side effects involved with using plants, which isn't the case with modern medicine.

4. They aid in digestion. Because blueberries contain both soluble and insoluble fiber, they can help keep your digestion healthy and right on track, which is a plus for those with problems in this area. On top of this, blueberries also promote good bacteria growth in the colon.

5. Blueberries support heart health. According to a study by Circulation, a journal, regularly eating blueberries and strawberries together decreases the risk of a heart attack by up to 33% (yes, please)! Also, blueberries lower bad (LDL) cholesterol and raise the good (HDL) one, as well as lower blood pressure, which affects a large amount of the population.

6. They are good for the skin and eyes. Blueberries are fully packed with different kinds of vitamins and minerals, which makes them a good candidate for restoring hormonal imbalance, such as acne. They also reduce the effect of too much sun exposure, and in regards to vision, blueberries can help treat macular degeneration and improve vision (my vision's not very good, so more blueberries, please!).

7. Blueberries are good for weight loss. For those of you trying to lose weight, you're about to hear some more good news! Blueberries have few calories and are high in fiber, which is a necessity for healthy digestion. They're also low on the glycemic index, so they're also perfect for those watching their blood sugar.

If you're interested in reading about the health benefits of blueberries in more detail, here is the medical source I used for this post, which includes some healthy blueberry recipes at the end (yummy!):

I hoped you all enjoyed this post and that it gave you a new, fresh pair of eyes for blueberries. It goes to show that great things can come in small (& roundly cute) packages! As always, your ideas and input are always welcome, so feel free to write your sweet, little hearts out in the comment section!

Until next time, cuties!

Love,

Adriana <3
